[Art Nouveau Furniture. Selected furniture models for furnishing living rooms in the style of modern times. A collection of basic and decorative furniture for the equipment of studies and bowers, parlours, dining rooms, dressing rooms, bedrooms and anterooms]. With 25 (of 26) folded folio plates containing 305 illustrations after ink drawings mainly by the editor, as well as 4 folded imperial folio sheets with 8 real size design drawings. Leipzig: Bernh. Friedr. Voigt (Th. Reineck, Weimar) 1904.
4°. [8 (title, introduction, table of plates)] pages. 25, 5 plates. Original publisher’s map with red half-cloth spine, corners and ribbon, as well as black title printing with publisher’s emblem on front cover.
Particularly scarce original edition of this outstanding collection with furniture for interior designers, cabinetmakers and carpenters, thanks to the attached sheets with real-sized design drawings (which are constructed like sewing patterns of tailors), that put a special focus on practitioners. The drawings of Max Graef, a Erfurt based highly productive interior designer and author of numerous pattern books and maps on the subject, are particularly strong in detail, as well as executed with skilful hand. They show beds, clock cases, cupboards of all sorts, desks, drawers, picture frames, mirrors, sofas, tables, washstands etc. The collection was reprinted in 1992, like many other of Graef’s popular works.
Our copy lacks plate no. XXVI with 12 drawings (depicting kitchen cabinets and tables).
Bottom flap is missing, spine of map worn, edges and corners in parts bumped, map with stains, plates in parts foxy, margins of text pages minimally torn, overall a solid copy, due to its importance and scarceness highly collectable despite the missing plate.
The presented original is very hard to find in trade and outstandingly rare in libraries, WorldCat/OCLC, KVK and viaLibri Librairies only show 2 copies worldwide (TIB Hannover, Riksantikvarens Bibliotek, Oslo).
