Contents, Illustration: Profusely illustrated and elaborately produced Art Nouveau set about the female nude. Each of the 4 volumes (5th volume is missing, as usual) contains 20 tissue-guarded and captioned plates, with tipped-in toned high quality half-tone reproductions of photographies showing female nudes in artistic study scenes. The scientific pretension of the project is attempted by texts deriving from psychologist Gustav Fritsch, as well as art historians Bruno Meyer and Konrad Wahr. Also printed on mould paper within decorative frames theses contributions oscillate between fine arts (e.g. photography), anatomy and ideas of the „Lebensreform“-movement concerning vulgarity and morals.
Condition: Covers in parts worn, edges and corners slightly bumped and with small tears, rear cover of vol. 4 with small tear, front cover of vol. 1 broken, otherwise well preserved set of this highly collectable edition, rare even in single volumes and especially in cloth.
