Comprehensive and particularly rare catalogue of the renown French interiors company Merand Frères, nowadays still producing upholstery at 31, avenue Ledru-Rollin in the 12th arrondissement of Paris.
Contents: The catalogue is richly illustrated with sharp and well contrasted repros of photos mainly of stools, armchairs and sofas, showing mostly the wooden frames of this furniture, but also numerous samples with coated padding and cushion. Furthermore there are also chests, paravanes, pedestals, tables and other interiors produced by Merand Frères depicted, overall the catalogue contains 353 illustrations of Merand Frères upholstery in various styles of the 18th and 19th century, plus 5 images of the store front (which looks still the same today) and the company's premises indoor.
Condition: Cover at edges and corners slightly worn and with a few barely seeable scratches, some of the pages are finger-stained in the lower right corner and show little spotting, joints inside also slightly broken twice, otherwise well preserved copy.
Rarity: A rare item indeed, OCLC and KVK show only 2 copies worldwide in institutional holdings, both in the US (Hale Library, Kansas and Bard Graduate Center, New York); no copy is traceable in French libraries including the BnF.
