Author, Contents: With present lexicon Franz Miklosich (or Franc Miklošič, 1813-1891), a linguist of Slovene descent, founder of modern Slavic studies and prominent protagonist of Slavic academic expatriate life in 19th ct. Vienna, created "..the undoubtedly best existing (Old) Church Slavonic dictionary", which had been "a classic standard work of palaeoslovenian studies for a good century", "of great importance to Slavists and simply indispensable". (...) „Moreover, as a complete lexicographical work (kept to the end of the alphabet) and as the only dictionary that takes into account all Church Slavonic variants [including Old Russian], this work will retain its value and serve scholarship well for a long time to come ..." (Mares)
Condition: Spine skilfully restored, boards slightly worn; front endpaper with handwritten owner's remark („J. Vidmar 1882); first and last pages in parts slightly foxy and in minimally waterstained; edges of cover a little bumped; overall a well-preserved, soundly bound copy of this very rare and sought-after (therefore also repeatedly reprinted) title.
