Albert EINSTEIN: NÄHERUNGSWEISE INTEGRATION DER FELDGLEICHUNGEN DER GRAVITATION. [Approximative Integration of the Field Equations of Gravitation.] Sitzungsberichte der Königlich Preussischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, XXXII (1916). Sitzung der physikalisch-mathematischen Klasse am 22. Juni, p. 688-697. Berlin: Verlag der Königlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften (in commission at Georg Reimer [Reichsdruckerei]), 29th June 1916.

Imperial 8vo (26,5:19 cm). 9 pages, numbered 688-697. Letterpress on machine paper, in original publisher’s brochure on orange-coloured stock with black title printing.

First separate printing in the original wrappers, of this important paper by Einstein, in which he proposend for the first time the existence of gravitational waves according to his Theory of General Relativity, which he had completed just a few months earlier, in early Dec. 1915.

Edition: Gravitational radiation should be observed and empirically proved much later. In 1993 the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded for their indirect observation, and only in 2015 they could be finally observed directly.

Condition: Rear cover at lower right corner with fault, rear cover partly loose, last leaves and front cover in parts torn, otherwise fresh copy, obviously unread.

Rarity: ABPC (1973ff.) and APO (1988ff.) record only 2 copies of this edition at auction (2011, 1998).
