Profusely illustrated anniversary catalogue of the German founding company of anatomical papier-mâché models.
Content, Illustration: Extensive and elaborately designed catalogue of Marcus Sommer, manufacturer of anatomical models labeled „SOMSO“, published on occasion of the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the company in 1876. Sommer was the first to use papier-mâché instead of plaster to manufacture life size anatomical models. The new material was much easier to paint, but also to cut and drill, which is why it helped the break-through of dismountable teaching models. The catalogue lists and describes more than 500 of Sommer's papier-mâché models, mostly anatomical, but also botanical (e.g. fruits) and zoological (including mushrooms), as well as moulages. Many of the models are illustrated with cliché prints of high quality photographies especially made for the catalogue, 3 models are reproduced in colour and tipped-in on black cardboard plates. All pages of the catalogue are gilt framed.
After having been forced to exile to Coburg during the GDR period, the company also returned to Thüringen in 1992 and is now run as a successful family business in the 5th generation.
