First edition of this collection of children's tales from popular literary sources, adapted by renown Bulgarian writers (e.g. Elin Pelin and Dora Gabe), with intensive and fresh chromolithographic reproductions of beautiful watercolour and ink drawings in Art Nouveau-style by Aleksandr Bozhinov (1878-1968).

Illustration: With it’s fusion of Art Nouveau gesture, styles of Byzantine miniatures and traditional Bulgarian folk-art, all skilfully composed into a harmonic new arrangement of illustration, ornament and calligraphy, this „Golden Book“ is a real icon of Bulgarian children book art. Four of the impressive illustrations are still present in today’s Bulgaria as stamps commemorating this esteemed artist.

Artist: Bozhinov is mainly renown as a painter, (political) cartoonist as well as author and illustrator of picture books.

Condition: Spine renewed with cloth in original cover, cover and some plates partly finger-stained and with minimal traces of foxing, otherwise a well preserved copy.

Rarity: Very rare indeed, according to KVK or WorldCat/OCLC there is only one copy quoted in institutional holdings worldwide outside Bulgaria (Washington D.C. (LOC).
