20,2:17,5 cm (card, closed); 18,6:10,6 cm (menu). Double folded card on glossy paper consisting of 6 pages, partly bound with mauve decorative ribbon, gilt title printing and framing incorporating a multicolour illustrated mounted offset plate, black text printing on two pages as well as mounted typewritten menu inside, with the hotel’s ink stamp on front cover.
Rare season’s greetings card in Art Deco-Style with mounted Christmas dinner menu, issued by the Carlton Hotel, Cairo.
Contents, Design: Present card incorporates two printed texts with wishes for a „Merry Christmas“ and a „New Year full of hope“, the cover design consists of a multicolour offset plate reproducing a gorgeous water-colour in Art Deco-Style depicting an elegantly dressed young woman positioned in a windy spring landscape. The mounted menu for the Carlton Hotel Christmas dinner dated „24-12-1946“ is typewritten in French language on a preprinted form. The recently renovated »Carlton« is one of the view hotels of the Cairo Belle Epoque still in existence, not to be mistaken with the new Nil Ritz-Carlton.
Provenance: Menu leaf verso with a stamp of „Österreichische Zensurstelle“, i.e. the censorship office of the Allied Forces in Austria that functioned between 1945 and 1953.
Condition: Paper partly creased, otherwise well preserved copy of this very hard to find ephemerum.
